While this training will provide baseline understanding for anyone curious about homelessness, it is specifically designed for civic leaders such as elected leaders, government officials, nonprofit staff, and other community partners, who are actively working to end homelessness. 

Leaders with any length of history on this issue - weeks or decades - will benefit from this training. One of the insights from unpacking the systemic dynamics driving homelessness is that we can live in one part of the system (e.g., a nonprofit providing shelter, a city elected leader) and we never gain awareness about other parts of the system. This course leverages Andrew's many hats as a service provider, government executive, consultant, and researcher. 

When people start working on homelessness, the solution often feels so obvious - it's housing, it's enforcement, it's [insert]. Andrew also thought homelessness was so simple when he first started working on it, yet within a few short years he shifted to calling it one of the most complex social issues we face. This training distills nearly 15 years of on-the-ground experience to breakdown that complexity in an easy to understand format with concrete next steps on how we move forward.

This training provides a detailed breakdown on how communities can and should think about budgeting for homeless services, ranging from outreach to shelter to prevention resources.

This course includes 4 learning modules. Module 1 is about 10 minutes and introduces the concept of systems thinking. Module 2 is about 45 minutes and breaks down the five major issues driving The Modern Homelessness Crisis. From this analysis, Module 3 is about 30 minutes and offers a new strategy / principle for driving change. Module 4 is about 60 minutes and describes concrete next steps for driving action in your community.
