Our Broken Status Quo

A paradigm is defined as:

"A pattern, a way of doing something; especially a pattern of thought, a system of beliefs, a conceptual framework."

The core insight that you will find repeated again and again throughout this website is the following:

Since the dawn of "The Modern Homelessness Crisis" in the early 1980s, for all intents and purposes, we – the homeless service sector – have fundamentally decentralized our response, leaving every state, county, CoC, city, and service provider to their own devices to figure out what to do.

This fragmentation is killing us.

We have wildly different system designs, even across neighboring communities. We endlessly rebrand and use inconsistent terminology for what are essentially a handful of basic building blocks common to all systems of care. Because of all this, it is nearly impossible to build system-wide alignment and create logical and coherent projections around the level of resources actually required to meet the need.

This course is called "The Paradigm Shift" because it is my mission to help our sector stop this broken cycle.
